AEO INDEX OCTOBER 2026 USA: YouTube is the website AI cites most for home appliance advice, and appliance makers’ own sites got 1 of 132 citations

LG leads the October 2026 AEO Index for home appliances, the three engines agree on 7 of 10 top picks, and ten different brands win the ten questions.

When ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews answered ten “best appliance brands” questions, the website they cited most was YouTube, with 19 citations, according to Answer Engine Daily’s October 2026 AEO Index. Analysis was powered by markaeo.com. Appliance brands’ own websites were cited once out of 132 sources. Of the YouTube citations, 12 came from Google AI Overviews, six from ChatGPT and one from Gemini.
The catch is Gemini, which barely cites anything. It attached sources to just 1 of its 10 answers, even though its answers ran longest, at about 1,149 words.
On the brand side, LG leads with an AI Rank Score of 36.3, and the engines agree on the #1 brand for 7 of the 10 questions. Brand and source tables are in the full October 2026 report. We collected the answers on 21 October 2026 from one U.S. location.
Which websites shape AI’s appliance answers?
The 132 citations came from 63 websites. After YouTube, the most cited were Google Shopping cards (18, all in AI Overviews, or 23.1% of that engine’s citations), then Tom’s Guide and Consumer Reports with 8 each, and RTINGS with 6.
The two engines that cite sources regularly lean on fairly separate lists. All 8 of Tom’s Guide’s citations and all 4 of TechRadar’s came from ChatGPT. RTINGS appeared only in AI Overviews, and Consumer Reports got 7 of its 8 there. Both use community content, though: video and forum pages make up 20.5% of AI Overviews’ citations and 14% of ChatGPT’s.
The index does not break down which brands the cited YouTube videos feature, so this data can’t say how much they help any one brand. On the 62 cited articles we could read, LG appears on 61%. GE Appliances is the most-mentioned brand on 13 of them, LG on 8.
Which brand does AI name first?
LG, on all three engines. It is named in 57% of answers and first in 6, and it wins washing machines and dryers with a perfect 100, every engine agreeing. Bosch (26.3) takes dishwashers with 100 and shares refrigerators with Whirlpool at 87 each. Ovens and ranges go to GE Appliances (24.7), also at 100. Whirlpool, at 24.3, is named in 53% of answers but ranked first only once.
Single-question specialists take the rest. Panasonic wins microwaves, Ninja air fryers and Roborock robot vacuums, each with a unanimous 100, and Coway takes air purifiers with 87. Ninja, Panasonic and Roborock each appear in 13% of all answers or fewer.
Where do the engines part ways?
On three questions, and each time ChatGPT is the one that differs:
- Refrigerators: ChatGPT ranked Whirlpool first, while Gemini and AI Overviews picked Bosch. The question ended in a tie at 87.
- Vacuum cleaners: ChatGPT picked Dyson. Gemini and AI Overviews both ranked SEBO first.
- Air purifiers: ChatGPT picked Blueair, the other two Coway.
The vacuum result is the strange one. SEBO is ranked first by two engines yet scores 67 and finishes third. Dyson and Miele share the win at 73, and no engine ranked Miele first at all. It simply placed consistently enough across the three to tie. Whirlpool’s single first place in the whole index is that ChatGPT refrigerator answer. The data does not show why ChatGPT breaks from the other two on these questions.
What does this mean for appliance brands?
One citation out of 132. My read is that the brand site barely counts as a source for these engines. What they read is YouTube, a handful of testing outlets like Consumer Reports and RTINGS, and Google’s own Shopping cards. If I ran AEO for an appliance brand, I would map which of those cover each product line before touching the website.
Gemini is harder to plan for. With sources on 1 answer in 10, there is almost no trail showing what it relied on.
In November I’ll check whether YouTube holds the top spot and whether the vacuum question gets a single winner. Per-question tables are in the full October 2026 report.
How we measured: we asked 10 home appliance buying questions on 3 engines, for 30 answers, collected on 21 October 2026 from a single U.S. location. AI answers vary by time, place and user. The full method and notice are in the report.
